Key components of a smoothie
Top tips
Order matters – follow the diagram to layer your smoothie so it blends well.
Use frozen fruit and / or yoghurt to thicken and cool your smoothie.
Yes, you really do need a green veggie in there to balance the sugar of the fruit. If you don’t like the idea of greens in your smoothie, try baby spinach – it’s so mild you won’t taste it.
Add oats or tofu to give you a creamy texture.
Add a scoop of cacao for a chocolate fix.
If you need some sweetness, try adding 1-2 dried dates or a teaspoon of maple syrup or honey.
Health benefits of smoothies
If you build a smoothie with the key components you’ll have a balanced drink with protein, fibre, healthy fats, complex carbs and vitamins and minerals. Your smoothie will then:
Help you feel full longer.
Give you sustainable energy.
Support healthy digestion.
Allow for the slow and steady absorption of natural sugars into your blood.
Provide a convenient full meal when on the go or busy.
